Tennis is booming across the country and right here at home. U.S. participation has grown for six consecutive years, adding nearly 10 million players since 2019 to reach 27.3 million by the end of 2025. Alabama is answering that surge with a wave of major court construction and expansion projects, some newly finished and others still underway across our beautiful state.
Major Tennis Facility Projects
- Tuscaloosa Tennis Center (Jaycee Park): An $11.2 million expansion adding 17 new outdoor courts, upgraded lighting, and new concessions/restroom buildings. [1, 2]
- John Hunt Park (Huntsville): A $4.6 million project adding 10 new hard courts with lighting and converting six existing hard courts into soft clay courts. [1]
- Newton Park (Prattville): Phase 3 construction featuring the addition of 10 new tennis courts alongside 18 pickleball courts and walking paths. [1]
- Chelsea High School Complex (Chelsea): A new competition complex off Sports Highland Parkway featuring eight courts and two pavilions built for the high school tennis team. [1]
- Gadsden State Community College (Gadsden): An approved $4.5 to $5 million city-backed project to build a new eight-court tennis complex with a championship court. [1]
- Veterans Memorial Facility (Florence): A recently opened $12 million complex featuring 12 hard tennis courts, 6 clay tennis courts, and 20 total pickleball courts. [1]
