Kaila Welch wins NJTL Youth Essay Contest for Alabama

Congratulations to Kaila Welch from Birmingham, Alabama, for being named a winner in the USTA Southern section of the 2023 USTA Foundation National Essay Contest presented by Deloitte! 

Out of over 1,000 entries, Kaila is among the nine exceptional juniors selected from each state in the Southern Section. They will enjoy an all-expense paid trip to Charleston, S.C., to attend the LTP $100K Women’s USTA Pro Circuit event on Daniel Island this week.

The USTA Foundation’s support for young talent extends across more than 250 National Junior Tennis League (NJTL) chapters nationwide, promoting not just tennis skills but also character, education, and citizenship. Within the Southern Section, there are 71 chapters, with Kaila being one of the remarkable winners representing her state.

Kaila’s accomplishment in this essay contest, answering Althea Gibson’s thought-provoking question, reflects dedication, passion, and a deep connection to the sport. Their personal essay resonates with the spirit of support and mentorship, showing how their NJTL chapter has made an impact on their tennis journey and life.
